Turn a Setback into a Comeback

Anyone who knows me, knows I am an emotional person. I have highs and lows, like everyone does. But sometimes my low can come out of nowhere and slowly build on itself until I reach a breaking point. It is something I’ve struggled with my whole life, and is never easy to deal with.
I would consider myself a privileged person. I have an amazing support system of friends and family I love and who love me. I’ve lived very comfortably my whole life without any major traumatic events. But I still battle with myself on a mental level. Sometimes I get down on myself and everything seems so much harder than it actually is. Little things start to add up fast, and I just feel sad, for no particular reason. I am so thankful for the beautiful people in my life who roll with me when this happens. I can’t even begin to express my gratitude for the people who accept me for all my flaws and rollercoaster emotions, and still love me for me.
I just recently experienced a low point, and it really slowed down the progress on my goals—maybe even took me a step backwards. And that can be a difficult place to come back from. It is difficult to accept failure, especially when you know you were in such a good place a week ago and working so hard. It is easy to give up at this point and fall back into old habits. It is very difficult to accept the situation, forgive yourself, and try again.
I think it’s important for people to understand that this is going to happen, whenever you try something new. You are going to experience setbacks and challenges.
We all know consistency and hard work are the keys to succeeding. But I am a flawed human being and sometimes life happens and gets in the way. Sometimes I feel like I can’t maintain the energy needed for that kind of commitment and am disappointed in myself for reaching that point. But guess what? It’s OKAY. It’s okay to make mistakes, and it’s okay to fail.
I think the real key to success is learning how to keep going when we experience setbacks.
Don’t give up on yourself. Keep trying. If you fail again, figure out how to set yourself up for success. Accept that you re going to make mistakes. Instead of letting them drag you down, learn from them. And know that you are enough:)
