Strive for Progress Not Perfection

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I don’t know how many times I’ve tried to make a change in my life and expected it to happen overnight. And I don’t know how many times I would get down on myself for “giving up,” when in reality I had set myself up for failure.

What can I say, I’m an impatient person. I want things to happen right now, right away. Anyone else out there? How many times have we done sit ups one time and checked for abs a few hours later? Or decided it was time to quit eating chocolate cold turkey, and then beat ourselves up later for not having enough willpower to never eat chocolate again in our entire life?

I think I finally figured out that the focus here is all wrong. I was focusing on the end result, when I should have been focusing on the small habits and goals that lead me to that end result.

We need to be celebrating all the little milestones we achieve along the way, no matter how small! The real goal is to be a better you than you were yesterday. And to understand that you are a human and are going to make mistakes and deviate from your plan. Know that that’s okay:) Get back on that horse, make your goals smaller if you have to. Don’t give up on yourself.

The idea is to create better habits that support your end goals! Start small and build on those small victories. Set yourself up to succeed!
